Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.

Cesar A. Cruz

Headless Angelcore, just like cutegore, is a mix of cute, pastel, slightly childish and often hyperfeminine elements borrowed from the kawaii aesthetic and dark, disturbing horror elements and elements of the gorecore aesthetic, but with much more focus on nostalgia; similarly to the nostalgiacore aesthetic; specifically, nostalgic retro elements from the 80's, 90's and 2000's and childhood nostalgia, as well as anime being a major inspiration for the aesthetic's visuals, often involving elements related to it, much like in the animecore aesthetic. It also has a lot of weirdcore elements, images of liminal spaces, webcore elements and video game imagery, most of it being driven from 8-bit retro video games; as well as religious visuals, especially biblically accurate angels; and occasionally, visual cues taken from the alien aesthetic.

The Headless Angelcore aesthetic, just like traumacore, can be used to cope with trauma (especially childhood trauma), but unlike it, doesn't have to be. The nostalgic elements and the horrific, gory, and dark elements can be used as a way to vent while the cute, childish elements can be used for comfort, as well as to try and give yourself the childhood that you never had due to trauma. Furthermore, the aforementioned cute & childish elements can also be used to vent; those elements symbolising childish innocence you once had and the dark elements symbolising the fact that your trauma corrupted you. Religious visuals can be used either for comfort or for venting if you have religious trauma. The quotes & text in the headless angelcore aesthetic are mostly comforting quotes focused on healing & recovery that encourage you to move on & grow as a person; life lessons you learned from your past experiences & texts about mental health awareness and, although venting text can be present as well, there is always less of it than of the positive, recovery centered quotes.

Lifestyle & Activities[]

The Headless Angelcore aesthetic implies being an introvert and a night owl, staying indoors most of the day (on days you don't have school or work), watching anime (especially 90's anime), playing video games (especially 8-bit retro video games), learning vocaloid dances, listening to hyperpop, watching horror movies for comfort, doing scrapbooking, drawing creepy doodles, making & reposting weirdcore edits on social media, consuming creepypasta & internet horror, hanging out in abandoned places at night, lucid dreaming, having dark humor, and overall, being strange and even what some people may consider creepy.

Fashion[]

Headless Angelcore fashion is divided into three categories: indoors fashion, outdoors fashion and school fashion, with the indoors category being what you wear at home, outdoors being what you wear outside and school fashion being what you wear to shool. Both indoors and outdoors fashion share the following elements in common (school fashion can incorporate them as well):

  • Kids stickers/temporary tattoos on your skin
  • Disturbing and/or comforting messages, angel numbers & small drawings on your skin
  • Knee blush
  • Band-Aids
  • Dark undereyes

Indoors Fashion[]

Headless Angelcore indoors fashion/homewear is basically just gray pajamas/nightgowns (and occasionally, kawaii onesies) with regular or fluffy socks and either slippers or no shoes at all. The creator of the Headless Angelcore aesthetic has sensory issues, so Headless Angelcore homewear is meant to be, overall, extremely comfortable, even for people with sensory issues.

  • Gray pajamas
  • Gray nightgowns
  • Gray socks
  • Slippers
  • Fluffy socks
  • Kawaii onesies

Outdoors Fashion[]

Headless Angelcore outdoors fashion is very girly and purposefully a bit childish; not as childish as jojifuku but just enough to trigger 2000's childhood nostalgia, and, just like Y2K, it also encourages thrifting. It is heavily inspired by anime, as well as the early 2000's fashion (especially the early 2000's Japanese fashion trends), and often incorporates horror elements and/or gorecore elements much like cutegore fashion.

  • T-shirts with anime prints
  • Oversized hoodies
  • Short miniskirts (especially super mini skirts)
  • Platform shoes
  • Loose/slouch socks
  • Knee socks/thigh highs
  • Legwarmers
  • Hairclips
  • Small stickers & gems on your face
  • Stick-on earrings
  • Fake blood

School Fashion[]

Headless Angelcore school fashion, much like nanchatte seifuku, is heavily inspired by Japanese girls' school uniforms. Headless Angelcore school outfits can be either sailor/seifuku-style, kawaii academia or kogal-inspired, but they almost never look like realistic Japanese school uniforms, but rather like school uniforms girls wear in anime.

  • Sailor collars
  • Colorful ties/bowties
  • Loose/slouched socks
  • Cardigans (especially oversized ones)
  • Plain white shirts
  • Pleated miniskirts
  • Plaid miniskirts
  • School shoes
  • Mary Janes
  • Backpacks/book bags
  • Hairclips/hair ties
  • Knee socks/thigh highs

Music[]

Much like Headless Angelcore fashion, Headless Angelcore music is divided into 2 categories: daytime music and nighttime music. Daytime music is what you mainly listen to during daytime or in the evening, while nighttime music is the music you blast on max volume at 3 AM in the morning, although you can listen to music of either category at any time you want.

Daytime Music[]

Headless Angelcore daytime music is hard to describe. There is no specific music artist that makes this type of music, it's rather a style that some individual songs happen to fall under. Overall, it feels very unreal, kind of like a fever dream, but also nostalgic and both comforting and unsettling at the same time. While most Headless Angelcore daytime songs also fall under the dreamcore aesthetic, not all dreamcore songs are automatically considered Headless Angelcore. Most Headless Angelcore daytime songs do not have vocals, but when they do, the lyrics are often either very strange or impossible to make any sense of. Some Headless Angelcore songs are actually OSTs from retro video games or are made in a way that makes them sound like retro video game OSTs, making them nostalgic. Some Headless Angelcore songs can also be borrowed from the webcore aesthetic to, again, trigger early years of the internet (90's-2010's) nostalgia. Occasionally, it can also incorporate hypercore songs, although it's quite rare and they are usually slowed down and mostly have a dark, disturbing, slightly mysterious vibe to them, whether it is caused by the beats, lyrics, or both.

Daytime Songs[]

Nighttime Music[]

Unlike daytime music, nighttime music is almost the complete opposite. It is extremely energetic, has vocals most of the time, incorporates a lot of hypercore songs as well as songs sang by VOCALOIDs, most of them being nightcored (sped up + pitched up). These songs mostly give off 2010's vibes and a lot of them were actually created during the 2010's.

Nighttime Songs[]

Video Games[]

Headless Angelcore video games include mainly 80's and 90's 8-bit retro games and 2D games that are made in a way that makes them look and feel like they were created during the 80's or 90's, but they aren't limited to that. They can also include games that look cute and innocent at first glance, but quickly turn turn dark and horrific, especially psychological horror games.

Edits[]

In most Headless Angelcore edits, a purple filter is added onto the picture if it wasn't already taken in a room with purple lighting, and when it's not the case, the saturation & contrast are often set to the maximum. The person's/character's face is often covered with, most of the time, either a black void, a large bruise/hole, a glitch effect or an effect that distorts the face completely, making it look terrifying and not human. Sometimes, weirdcore and/or gorecore images such as eyes, mouths, meat & teeth can be added to the picture.
